Portrait of a Headteacher
Enfield Council
This is a portrait of Arthur Barzey – headteacher of Heron Hall Academy. He was awarded headteacher of the Year by The Times Educational Supplement in 2022. Enfield Council wanted to recognise him (and four others) as Community Champions for their contributions to the local community. Arthur was presented with his award at the Millfield Theatre, Edmonton, in recognition of Black History Month. This art piece will take a tour around the borough in 2023.
I was keen to include Arthur’s personality, charm, and love of books into the artpiece. He hails from Sierra Leone – hence the use of the flag colours in the background
What the client said
“So snazzy – and such a joy! Love it, from the big colours to the small details.”
What Arthur said
“It is an outstanding and masterful piece of work. The attention to detail is mesmerising and it is a testament to the hard work you put into researching the piece (meeting with me) and its production. I look good, not because of my good genes, but due to your fantastic skill and talent. The colours are vibrant, the tone subtle and the background all had personal significations to me. It always brings a smile to mine and visitors’ faces. You are an amazing artist. Thank you Kareen.”
